Bergün/Filisur, 1,367 m

The municipality of Bergün includes the whole Albula Valley and valleys joined to it. The Albula comes from several springs near the Albula Pass and the neighbouring Fuorcla Crap Alv to the west of it. Above a notable step down the valley is the lake called Lai da Palpuogna, and under it the bottom of the Preda Valley joins it; two other valleys join the Preda, Val Mulix on the left and Val Zavretta on the right. Below Preda, the river, deeply embedded in the cliffs, compelled the builders of the railway to develop a line containing several viaducts and curved tunnels which has since become famous.

600 square kilometres, two valleys, one park: Parc Ela

Parc Ela is the biggest regional nature park in Switzerland. It is the size of the Canton of Glarus – and it is still being added to. 21 municipalities in the Albula Valley and Surses are working together towards a common goal: protection of nature coupled with economic development. Parc Ela groups a wide variety of natural beauties. Some of them need a guide to be discovered. Rocks, for example: many pass them by, but if you take a rock paring course you will find that they are near-jewels.

Whether on foot, by train or Post-bus: many different packages are available. Anyone who is filled with curiosity by the idea "Flix exclusive: the world of invertebrates" can accompany a scientific researcher as he does his rounds up on Alp Flix. And don't forget the forester's guided tours through the natural forest reserve. Get to know the Nature Park with the Parc Ela Hiking Map. There is also documentation available for some of the thematic trails – like the railway history trail or the pioneers' trail in the Albula Valley. There is now a book about Parc Ela by the local expert Peter Donatsch which is available in German. It makes good reading prior to a visit to the Albula Valley or Surses – so that you can be sure to stop at all the right places.
