Davos Klosters: Alpine holidays with a Touch of Class
Davos is Switzerland's highest town, whereas Klosters is every inch the classic Alpine village. What links this contrasting couple is a comprehensive network of cable cars and chairlifts, opening up more than 700km of hiking and 600 km of mountain bike trails for all levels and ability and with superb signposting on four interconnected mountains. Making the most of mountain transport can be an expensive business, but not with the ‘Davos Klosters Inclusive’ card. Given to guests who stay for a minimum of one night, the card is a pass to free use of all cable cars, chairlifts, local rail and bus travel, some entrance fees, and discounts on other services, such as the Davos adventure park. To give context to the immense value of the card, in summer 2010 a standard return family ticket on the Jacobshorn cable car was 90 Swiss Francs (approx. £58).
Making full use of the “Davos Klosters Inclusive” card means that getting active in the Davos Klosters mountains is made easy. You’re up in the mountains in no time on the lift system, which opens up 700 kms of marked hiking trails and 600 kms of mountain biking trails. Nordic walking is also a very popular pastime and keeps you very fit. There is a lake in Davos with a sailing centre where you can try dinghy sailing and windsurfing. There are outside swimming pool centres in both Davos and Klosters for a refreshing dip whilst enjoying the alpine sunshine. For the more adventurous, a tandem paraglide with an instructor will give you a bird’s eye view of the beautiful valleys below you.

It's not only the transport that offers exceptional value in the summer months, as when the snow melts, hotel rates also melt away, and bring the opportunity to holiday in style at very agreeable prices, with nightly rates often 30-40% lower than in winter. Choose from family run, chalet style pensions to 5 star palaces with every conceivable bell and whistle – there really is something for every budget. More information about accommodation in Davos

The long sunny days of summer in the clear mountain air are best enjoyed by visiting from June until September, when daytime temperatures can be in the 20s centigrade, and if occasionally some rain falls, locals will tell you that it is their way of keeping the mountains clean for visitors.
