The 1½ hour route from Zernez to Mals begins in Zernez in the Lower Engadin and leads up a long, gradual slope through the area of the Swiss National Park to the Ofen Pass (2,049 metres). There you have an uninterrupted view into the Müstair Valley and the Vinschgau. After a journey through the neatly-kept Müstair Valley villages you reach the border village of Müstair with its world-famous St. John's Monastery (UNESCO World Heritage Site). Then you cross the border into Italy and soon reach the medieval town of Glurns. Soon after you arrive at Mals station, where the Vinschgau Railway is waiting for you. It takes another hour passing through picturesque villages to bring you to Meran.
