Beinvegni and Varkuma

It is better to take up activities than to talk about it, of that I am convinced. That’s how I approach my career as a ski racer. And it can be put into use in my home region. I would like to tell you something about Surselva here, but experiencing it yourself is better! The Walser culture, the Rhaeto-Roman speaking mountain villages, the Rhein Canyon and our mountain landscape are always there to be rediscovered – by foot or on a mountain bike. In summer I find motivation and strength here; I especially appreciate the great diversity on offer.

It already begins with the landscape: in southern Surselva there is the Greina plateau and the Safien valley with the Nature Park Beverin, in the west the springs of the Rhein, in the north the high valley Val Frisal and the waterfalls at Lag da Pigniu (UnescoTectonic Arena Sardona), in the east there is nature’s monument the Rhein Canyon. In the middle, family friendly holiday spots are happy to have guests: BrigelsWaltensburgAndiast, Obersaxen Mundaun, Val Lumnezia, Ilanz and the Rhein Canyon Safien Valley region.

Those who enjoy exploring mountains and nature are exactly at the right place in our region with more then 1,100 kilometres of well signposted hiking trails. Mountain bikers can expect diverse tour offers, from a short trip with family on the day journeys to the many day tours between the Rhein springs and the Rhein Canyon.

Surselva is wonderful for families especially. In the summer there are the lakes such as “Davos Munts” in Vattiz and the open air pool in Ilanz, the adventure playground also goes with the offer, as well as minigolf or riding scooters. I recommend a visit to the adventure centre “Rufalipark” in Obersaxon in any case. Or wander through Ilanz, the first city on the Rhein and visit our regional museum.
