Herzlich Willkommen

It can be beautiful when the abyss opens: I succumbed to the fascination of the Viamala gorge as a child and I am always excited when a trip to this natural wonder is on my schedule. In particular, when I can accompany guests to the night event "Viamala Notte." When you follow me to the realm of experience, you will find that while the gorge is definitely worth seeing by day, at night you can even feel it.

In the past, the rich experience of, Viamala ("Via Mala" = "bad path") was considered to be a major obstruction on the arduous journey across the Alps. The region encompasses the valleys of Thusis/Heinzenberg, the Domleschg with the mountain enclaves Feldis and Mutten, the Val Schons, the Avers/Ferrera high-mountain valley and Splügen-Rheinwald. The valleys Thusis/Heinzenberg and Val Schons are also part of the Beverin Nature Park.

In summer, guests can take advantage of one of our long hikes to explore the pristine nature and history of our region. A classic choice would be the long-distance hiking trail, the ViaSpluga. Along the route, you will discover a tremendous variety of cultural objects of national and international importance and the traces of the two thousand year history of the transit routes across the Alps.

Of enormous art-historical significance is the Romanesque painted ceiling in the church of Saint Martin in Zillis. The only surviving work of this kind was created at the beginning of the 12th century and attracts visitors from all over the world. While it is important, Zillis is only one of the highlights of the region. Other examples include the fruit-growing and castle region of Domleschg, the petroglyphs of Carschenna, the Crestawald Fortress Museum the Marmot Trail in Avers and the old Averserstrasse.

This is enough for more than one summer holiday - is it not? When the weather is nice, I enjoy a hike with my family and our dog to our beautiful mountain lakes.
